Why to visit Italy

Italian Republic is situated in Mediterranean Europe. The country shares borders with France in the north-west, Switzerland and Austria in the north, and Slovenia in the north-east. It is one of the founding member countries of the European Union. Population of Italy amounts to 60 millions. Italy is a catholic country and the Pope, residing in Vatican (within the city of Roma), has a great influence on the nation.

The Italian peninsula has shape of a boot. The country offers vast variety of different landscapes, thanks to its coastline over 8 000 km long, mountainous ridges- the Alps and the Apennines, hills, lakes, to flatlands and Mediterranean Sea.

The biggest cities are Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Palermo, Genoa.

Italian Art and Culture

Italy is known all over the world as a marvellous country, with an outstanding heritage of history, culture and humanity that are absolutely unique in the world. Its heritage consists of great civilisations, myths, genius minds, masterpieces in art and architecture, and it is a heritage that belongs to all humanity and is the foundation of universal culture.

Italy can be proud of about two-thirds of the world’s artistic heritage, an amazing wealth of masterpieces that makes Italy a kind of large open-air museum stretching from the Alpine ranges in the North to the Mediterranean Sea in the South. You can visit this immense museum by going to the great cities of art, but also to small towns and villages which all have their own wealth of artistic and historical treasures. Therefore, or that is why, Italians have the natural instinct and feel for art and beauty.

Italy belongs to the top tourist destinations in the world. Rome, the Eternal City, the merletti of Venetian architecture reflecting in the waters, Renaissance Florence, the perfectly conserved archaeological remains in Pompei, the romantic ruins of the Temples of Agrigento, outstanding architectural masterpieces in the historical centres of famous cities of art, characteristic Mediaeval towns and museums that are renowned the world over.

Italy is the land of unique lifestyle, historical monuments and healthy cuisine. In fact, Italians are very proud people.

Italian fashion brands, such as Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and many others are famous all over the world. Italy offers also many well- known car brands- Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Fiat, Lancia and Bugatti.

Italian Cuisine

All over the world you can find Italian cuisine. Pizza and spaghetti are the most popular. Also Italian wine is exported to many world countries. Italians love to eat lots of cheese , sea fruit, vegetables, pasta, prosciutto (ham) and ice-cream.

Go and taste sauces and meats from Piedmont; dishes flavoured with basil from Ligura; risottos from Lombardy; baccala (dried salt cod) from Veneto; Bolognese tortellini and tagliatelle from Emilia; meat, game and soups from Tuscany; grilled fish and fish soups from the Marches; coda alla vaccinara (ox or cow tail stew) and Giudea-style artichokes (deep fried) from Rome; and recipes from Sicily with Arabic and Bourbon influences; ingredients (fish, vegetables, pasta) fully exploited by Puglia cooking; Sardinian cuisine ranging from traditional meats to the more recent proposals of sea food, connected to its tourism.

Italy has thousands of delicious recipes to taste. By the way, in a restaurant, do not be surprised if the waiter will bring you a cup of coffee too small, because in Italy it is standard.

What to do in Italy

One of the most romantic places is Venice. The city was built on a lagoon. Take a sightseeing tour on gondola, it is really amazing. If you are a history lover, you must spend some time in Rome. It is possible to walk and see all the monuments and historical sites on foot, because everything is close to the centre. The symbol of Rome is Colosseum. Certainly other places worth to visit in Rome are Pantheon, Monument of Vittorio Emanuele II, Fontana di Trevi, Vatican and the Quirinal Palace. If you like fashion, Milan is the right place for you, where you can shop trendy cloths of famous brands. And if you just want to relax and get tanned, enjoy Italian beaches, such as in Bibione, Costiera Amalfitana, Capri, Sardinia, Ischia and many other.
