Luxembourg, officially The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is situated in the west Europe and borders on French to the west, Belgium to the north and German to the east. Beaufort – city with fortress (click for more information)
Castle Beaufort is very popular among tourists who come to see this fortress from 12th century. Beaufort was built in different styles – roman as well as gothic. One of attractions is wardroom where now torture chamber is. Not far from this castle, you can find renaissance chateaux from 17th century. You can taste here liqueur from currant which is local speciality.

Bourscheid – medieval castle (click for more information)
Bourcheid castle dominate the the Sure valley since the eleventh century. Castle is surrounded by a massive ring wall with 11 watchtowers. Bourscheid is typical example of medieval castle. You can visit here The Stolzemburger House where museum of the history of the castle and the lords of Bourscheid is.

Clerveaux – charming medieval village (click for more information)
Clerveaux is situated about 30 km north from Luxembourg in the middle of Ardennes. City was built around castle from 12th century. Castle was damaged during World War II. and was later repaired. Today you can visit and see the town hall, a collection of models of Luxembourg's castles, the war museum and an exhibition of the photos entitled "The Family of Man". You can visit museum of dolls with 500 exhibits.

Diekirch – Battle of the Bulge (click for more information)
Diekirch is city situated on the banks of the Sauer River in the north-eastern Luxembourg. There is brewery with beer with same name. In Diekrich you can visit famous war museum, National Museum of Military History, because Diekirch played important role in the Battle of the Bulge. Annual carnival takes place in Diekirch and is held under the sign of donkey which is symbol of Diekirch.

Echternach – oldest town (click for more information)
Echternach is small town on the border to German and is the oldest town of Luxembourg. Echternach is gate to Native Park and it is town with a lot of historical exhibits. In 699 Benedictian monastery was founded and Echternach became one of the first propagator of Christianity in Europe. You can visit here also Garden of Prelat´s with four statues of seasons and rococo pavilion.

Gravenmacher – wine region (click for more information)
Gravenmacher is perfect place for people who love good wine. Gravenmacher offers wine-cellars that are open to public. After Easter, when festivities of wine take part, you can taste here all kinds of Luxembourg wines. You can visit here baroque church with glass products from luxemborough´s craftsmen. You can take a voyage on river Mossel and see relics of settlement.

Luxembourg City is divided by two valleys Pétrusse and Alzette. Tourists can visit casemate in the old castle that are from 17th century. The Old Town of Luxembourg city is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage. One of the most interesting parts is “Old Fortress“. Other tourist attractions are Chemin de la Corniche which is precinct with the most beautiful balconies in Europe and Citadelle du St Esprit from which you will have very nice view of the city or Cathédrale Notre-Dame with the santon of Saint Mary who the patron of Luxembourg is.

Mondorf-Les-Bains – spa resort (click for more information)
Mondorf-Les-Bains is situated in the south of Luxembourg. There are spa where you can make the best of curative action. Spa resort is very pleasant and quality. You can go to culture centre, casino or play tennis and golf. In surroundings of the town you can see remains of Roman foretime. There used to be settlement Ricciacum that was business centre. There are still for example statue of Jupiter, streets and theatre.

Mullerthal - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland (click for more information)
Mullerthal is known as a good place for hiking and is one of the most popular places to visit. Mullerthal is unique areas because ot the special humid climate. Landscape looks like in Switzerland but is of course in different heights. The curious sandstone rock formations, which are from latest Ice Age are part of this landscapes. In this area you can visit many towns, for exaple Echternach.

Vianden – city on the Our River (click for more information)
Vianden is situated on both rivers of the Our River. Dominating feature of Vianden is medieval castle with walls. It was set up in 9th century and was partially destroyed by fire and earthquake in 17th century. It was built on the place where Roman oppidum and a Carolingian sanctuary were. There are collections of weapons, books and furniture in roman and gothic style.

Luxembourg has population of about 480 222. The capital city is Luxembourg that is also the biggest city and has 85000 inhabitants. It is the seat of Government and the official residence of the Grand-Duke. The other cities are Esch-sur-Alzette, Echternach, Diekirch, Differdange, Dudelange and Sanem. Most of people, 87% are Catholics, the rest are evangelical, Jewish and Muslims. Luxembourg has very high standard of living and low unemployment. The official languages are French, German, and Luxembourgish.

History of Luxembourg

History of Luxembourg is connected with beginning of Luxembourg castle. This castle was founded by Siegfried. Town has arisen around this castle. Even if was small, it was important because of its location. Shire was established in 963 and in 1354 was highhanded to duchy by Czech King Charles IV who was son of John Luxembourg. Luxembourg was for a long time under the rule of other country, Spanish, French or Austrian. In 19th century Luxembourg gained independent. Even if Luxembourg was neutral, it was occupied by German in both World Wars. Luxembourg gave up its neutrality, joined Europe organization and was founder of EU.

Culture

Culture of Luxembourg has been always influenced by its neighbours. Luxembourg’s location is the reason why is Luxembourg melting point. Latin and German culture meet here each other. Most of people speak all three office languages. Luxembourg still keepc its folk traditions, for example in Echternach. Luxembourg’s cuisine is delicious and is influenced by French and German cuisine.

Luxembourg is little country with nice countryside. It is connected with rest of Europe and you can go here during your way to French, German etc. You will find here culture of French as well as German.
