Coloane Island (click for more information)
This is still a place of rest in the lively city. If you would like to sunbath on the beach, play golf or just hike take a short trip to the island but be fast, the urbanistic plans are taking their toll.

Gardens of Macau (click for more information)
It would be shame to mention just one. Macau has gardens built in classical Suzhou style or in traditional European manner. There are plenty of them and each has its own specific that makes it incomparable to any other.

Why to visit Macau

Macau is a special administrative region of People’s Republic of China. More or less it is one city that spreads over small peninsula and two islands. This unique part of the world lies on the important trade routes and has been a crucial port of Portuguese seafarers since the second half of 16th century. Although the power of Portuguese had faded away, Macau had not lost its position and is still lively and growing. Nowadays it has become one of the most popular Asian world class tourist destinations.Macau has total population 456,989 people but there are twelve different newspapers published every day (8 Chinese, 3 Portuguese and one English).

Climate

Macau is located south of tropic of Cancer and on the Pearl River estuary. Therefore it is a monsoon region with mild and rainy summers with unpredictable cyclones that usually bring heavy precipitation. The best season to visit Macau starts in October and finishes in December. This season has clear blue skies and temperatures dropping from 25 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Culture and People

Macau has been a home ground for traders and merchants from all over the world and as a consequence of this we now see so many cultural influences in the city. Despite that almost 95% of the population are ethnic Chinese, the place has still very cosmopolitan and outgoing atmosphere.

Cantonese is most commonly spoken but Portuguese is second official language and English is used as lingua franca of trade, tourism and commerce.

Summary

Macau is integral part of China just for 8 years and as Hong Kong it benefits from the system that has been implemented to these two returned provinces referred as “one country, two systems”. So it still keeps its specific society that combines all the ethnic groups and their customs and tradition into one mind-boggling mixture.

Macau offers you traditional architectural styles of various nations as Chinese, British, Dutch, Portuguese and many more, the sole Macanese cuisine consisting of tasty and distinctive dishes you cannot find anywhere else. Not only architecture and cuisine is extraordinary in this city, cultural festivals, sport opportunities, well-kept gardens and parks, museums and modern commerce centres are worth visiting.
