Nepal is the only Hindu monarchy on the world. Despite it, lots of people with nationality and religion differences live there without any conflicts. Nepal lies between India and Tibet. These neighbors have influenced Nepal for whole history and India is main partner for Nepal even now. Economy of Nepal is directly dependent on India. Very important for Nepal is the tourism, because of magnificent nature. Annapurna area (click for more information)
Annapurna is another famous 8000 meter mountain, which is very popular for tourists. It is visible directly from Pokhara. For hikers, there are two possibilities for trekking. The first one is the trek around Annapurna, which takes approximately 20 days. The second one is the trip to Annapurna base camp, this is for 10 days. The trails go through the lovely nature and local villages.

Bhaktapur is by right of merit on UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. When we enter into Bhaktapur we feel like in the old times. The town is full of old buildings and local people. There aren’t any cars, because of restriction, so we can enjoy beauties of Bhaktapur.

The capital city is the cultural, economic and social centre of Nepal. The international airport is situated there; therefore most of the tourists start just in Kathmandu. The most interesting place in the centre is Durbar Square, where we can find old royal palace called Hanuman Dhoka and Kumari Chowk Palace. Tourists are usually accommodated in the city borough called Thamel, most of the hotels are situated there as well as many traditional restaurants and souvenir shops.

Pokhara is the second biggest city in Nepal. It is piedmont city and most of the rock-climbers and trekkers start their way to Annapurna just there. Pokhara is a nice city, because of clear lake called Phewa and surrounding peaks. Also Himalaya range with Annapurna and Dhaulagiri is visible from the city.

The most important thing in Nepal is just the nature, the range of Himalayas in the China-Nepal borders. In Nepal lies eight mountains with high exceeding 8000 meters - Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Shinsha Pangma, Cho Oyu, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga. In addition we can find fascinating jungle with elephants, crocodiles and other exotic animals on the South of Nepal.

People in Nepal

Population of Nepal is 28 901 790 inhabitants. Nepali, the official language is only spoken by 50% of population; other languages are Maithili, Bhojpury, Tharu and other local languages. In the tourist areas most of the people are also English spoken. Main religion is Hindu 84%, but many Buddhists (10%) and Muslims (4%) are there.

History of Nepal

Even thought that Nepal is a small country, big role in Asian history this country had. Nepal is the birthplace of Buddha and famous Indian emperor Ashoka lived there. Nepali nationality exists 200 years, but the civilization which was on nowadays Nepal area is one of the oldest one. From the late history the fights with Tibet and Britain are important, from this time the prestige Ghur army comes. In 1962 the party less system was introduced, called system of panchayats, which was unique just for Nepal. In 1990 after the Nepal-Indian crisis the new democracy era begins.

Culture

Because of same religion with India and Tibet, the culture is similar with these neighbours. Nepali culture is connected with the music and dance. Celebration festivals are very popular. For people from undeveloped region, festival is the only opportunity to visit bigger town or city.

What to do in Nepal

Himalayas inherently belong to Nepal so a mountain visiting is the most important thing, which should be included in the itinerary. Beside the mountains, Nepal can also offer nice jungle and very old historical monuments.
