History - full of oversea discoveries

On territory of today Portuguese changed in history many nations like Phoenicians, Celts, Romans or Visigoths, who formed the country to the present image. In 15th century became Portuguese the seafaring power. Lot of oversea expeditions realized by Vasco de Gama, Pedro Álvarez Cabral or Afonso de Albuquerque brought Portuguese many colonies (Brazil, Mozambique, Angola) and big fortune. In 20th century was Portuguese raved by contest for power. Till in 1974 started the democracy and in 1986 Portuguese came in European Union.

Lisbon – the main city

Classicist nature and wide square streets are typical for the heart of Lisbon – Baixa. Most interesting and most wondered monuments are Castle of Säo Jorge, Lisbon Cathedral and statue of Christ the King looking down on the city. Lisbon is the football city – there are playing two most famous football clubs in Portuguese – Sporting and Benfica Lisbon.

Porto – main city of viniculture

Second largest city in Portuguese is famed by your cultural heritage and mainly by production of worldwide known Port wine – blackstrap. On the left bank of Doura river is the Vila Nova de Gaia – the village with famous wine-vaults. Thanks to many wonderful cultural monuments was the historic centre of Porto - Ribeira in 1996 declared as Wonderful Heritage of UNESCO. If you like the historic architecture you can visit quite number of churches, monasteries or cathedrals - Porto Cathedral, Carmo church, San Francisco church, museums – National Museum, Port wine museum, or any others monuments like San Bento station – the railway station.
