Romania is a wonderful place to see located in the South-eastern Europe. With its splendid nature, temperate climate, miles long sand beaches, vineyards, interesting culture and history, hospitable and warm people, it is slowly but surely being discovered as a magnificent tourist destination.

To the northwest shares Romania borders with Hungary, Yugoslavia to the southwest, Ukraine to southeast and to the north, Bulgaria to the south and the eastern border is shared with the Republic of Moldova. About one quarter of Romania is covered by forests very rich in fauna and flora.

Azuga – mountain resort (click for more information)
Azuga is also called “The Paradise for Skiers”, because of Sorica, the longest ski run in Romania. The town of Azuga situated under this mountain resort is famous for Azuga beer, which is brewed in a local beer factory.

Bran Castle (click for more information)
Bran castle is a fortified medieval castle, which is considered to be “Dracula’s Castle”. It was built to serve as a protection of Brasov from invaders, but also as a customs station. In the castle there is collected a wide range of furniture and art items from fourteenth – nineteenth century.

Once known as “The Little Paris”, Bucharest is typical for its wide tree-lined boulevards, gardens and parks, which gather together glorious buildings of a wide range of architectural styles. Historic Centre of Sighisoara (click for more information)
Sighisoara is located in the historic region of Transylvania and so it owes connection to the myth of Dracula (Vlad the Impaler was born in one of the town houses). Beautiful cultural monuments, among them eleven “guardian towers“, but also a Medieval Festival, which takes place in July, make it a favourite tourist destination. The Danube Delta (click for more information)
The youngest land in Europe is formed in the place where waters of Danube flow into the Black Sea. It is the largest ad best preserved delta in Europe. The Danube Delta creates a unique ecosystem, many rare species of birds including cormorants or pelicans, fishes like beluga and mackerel, and other animals and plants find their refuge there. This all is why it is a part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

Why to visit Romania


Romania is a wonderful place to see located in the South-eastern Europe. With its splendid nature, temperate climate, miles long sand beaches, vineyards, interesting culture and history, hospitable and warm people, it is slowly but surely being discovered as a magnificent tourist destination.

To the northwest shares Romania borders with Hungary, Yugoslavia to the southwest, Ukraine to southeast and to the north, Bulgaria to the south and the eastern border is shared with the Republic of Moldova. About one quarter of Romania is covered by forests very rich in fauna and flora. In the centre of the country are the Carpathians Mountains, which are also known as Transylvanian Alps, and cover about one third of the country. They are bordered by rolling hills rich with vineyards, which make another third of the country. The hills are ending up with agriculturally managed fertile plains. Through Romania run many rivers including the Danube River with its Delta in the Black Sea, which forms wetlands with unique ecosystem.

People in Romania

Romania has 22 276 056 inhabitants, national language is Romanian, but French, English and German are also widely spoken. The prevailing religion is Romanian Orthodox (87%). Other main religions are Protestant, Roman Catholic and Islam. Many religious celebrations are kept in Romania. All over the country, Romanians celebrate their Saint’s Name Day – Ziua Onomastica. All religions celebrate their own religious holidays.

Romanian History

The history of Romania is not only Ceausescu and Dracula. For long centuries it was invaded by various groups of people. The whole historical evolution was unitary, with typical features as language, customs, unity of descent, and economical, political and cultural relationships in the Romanian population.

Romanian Culture

Very rich culture of Romania is specific, because it is impossible to categorize it. It includes elements of various cultures including influences from Central and Eastern Europe or Balkans. Romania has rich folk traditions, represented by handicrafts such as wood carving, ceramics, weaving and embroidery of costumes, household decorations. Traditions are still alive also in customs, habits, dance and folk music. They are closely connected to a specific time of year. Among those of pagan origin, one cannot forget to mention the Paparuda, the summer rain enchanting. Other customs, like colinde (Romanian Christmas carols singing), sorcova (the custom of New Year’s Eve), or the Martisor spring celebration, are of Christian origin. Number of monuments and cultural patrimonies is defined as a part of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Romania in International Relations

In 2004 Romania joined NATO. European Union approved entry of Romania in 2005. And so in 2007 it became a member of EU. Its final acceptance was based on many law and environmental reforms.

Diverse and rich nature in combination with temperate climate offers myriad of opportunities for tourists.
