An outlook point that local families frequent, it is located not far from the capital Sana’a.  There are small villages and clay-walled orchards in this area.  Most beautiful is the renowned five story rock palace, Da al-Hajar.  Weddings are often held here on weekends.  On the Fridays of the weddings, male guests preform traditional dances here.

Why to visit Yemen

Stunning beaches, enormous mountains, ancient villages and lively markets of Yemen will leave you in a trance-like state. It is situated on the Middle East on the Arabic Peninsular and circled by the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and Saudi Arabia.

Officially it is the Republic of Yemen, it was named by the Romans “Arabia Felix”, meaning “happy Arabia” because of abundant riches of frankincense, myrrh, and various spices that they met with upon arriving in Yemen. The 22.2 million inhabitants will be found to greet you with kindness and hospitality. Their abundant history and rich cultural tradition makes Yemen a fascinating place to visit.

When the desserts of the Middle East reach the ocean you arrive at the Red Sea. It is a thin strip of water that divides the Middle East and Africa. Though it’s crystal blue surface is beautiful, what lies beneath is spectacular. An abundance of wildlife lives in the waters. There are vibrant coral reefs, sharks, manta rays, turtles and much more. Brilliantly coloured schools of fish will greet you as you swim with them. Hanish and Zubeir are two Yemen islands located in the Red Sea that are popular destinations to stay when scuba diving.

Sanaa is the capital of Yemen and there are well over 1 million inhabitants. Even just wandering around the city for hours, there is much to see and do. It is full of history and culture. Old Turkish and Jewish areas can be found not far from the city centre. Many restored little villages and town prove to be very interesting sights. The colourful muslim markets offer a great place to shop and buy various muslim arts and crafts. Be enchanted by this story land city, it is like being on the set of 1001 Arabian Nights!

The official language is Arabic, though English is spoken by many businessmen. It is believed that the Queen of Sheba (from the Bible) was from Yemen. The wisdom and enchantment from those eras still remain. A visit to Yemen will indeed to prove to be like a fairy tale holiday.
