Birdwatching (click for more information)

Birdwatching is one of the best reasons for visiting Botswana. Lush river banks are „bird-packed“ – a determined bird watcher can spot over one hundred bird species in a single day!

The most recommended time for bird watching is the wet season. You can see here storks, long-toed plovers, pelicanes, African skimmers, Bradfield’s hornbills, carmine bee-eaters, bat hawk, narina trogon… some of them are also heard, for example Heulin’s robin and its beautiful morning songs.

Barbel run will be an amazing experience for every bird watcher. Barbel swimming to breed are followed by predatory fish and they are followed by vast numbers of various birds.

Signs of the original San culture can be found especially in sacred Tsodilo hills. This mysterious site has a spiritual meaning for San people, it is believed to be the place of the first Creation and you will find here thousands of rock paintings describing various scenes.

If you seek remains of colonial history, explore the old part of Gaborone, „Village“. To see something modern but no less interesting, have a look at Orapa house in Gaborone, where diamonds are sorted and distributed all around the world. Museum enthusiasts should not miss museum in Gaborone, it has some outstanding exhibits.

Safari (click for more information)

There are several outstanding nature parks in Botswana where you can go game viewing. The most famous are Mokolodi Nature Reserve, Chobe National Park or Moremi Wildlife Reserve, which lies within the largest inland delta – Okavango Delta.

Many ways of exploring these parks are available, you can choose a walking safari, vehicle safari, flying safari, horse or elephant-back safari, but most recommended is to get in on a boat or moroko – a dug-out canoe poled by local guide – so you can watch animals drinking or bathing, even spot miniature frogs or baby crocodiles hiding in reeds.

There is also the opportunity of night rides. You will encounter rather popular animals, such as various antelope, zebra, giraffe, elephant, hyena, hippo, lion, leopard or white rhino. But in time of floods you can also spot less common species – situatunga, wild dogs, buffalo or watted crane.

Walking and biking (click for more information)

Walking safaris are in many ways better than other kinds, because you will see things you woulnd’t notice from a vehicle.

But you must follow giudes instructions carefully, otherwise you could put yourself in a danger. Relatively new and outstanding way of viewing wildlife is on a quad bike. It is the best way to cross salt plains created when water left the area due to climatic changes.

Why to visit Botswana

Botswana is the real Africa where the wonderful waterways of the Okavango Delta meets the Kalahari desert. You will find beautiful safaris in Botswana both in national parks as well as in private game reserves. Botswana is also one of the fastest growing economies in whole Africa. And unlike much of Africa, Botswana is a safe and secure holiday destination, with little crime and no unrest.

Chobe National Park forms the nucleus of this ultimate African safari destination; where great herds of grazers and browsers - followed by predators - roam between the red sands of the Kalahari – home to the San Bushmen – prides perfect peace and solitude, and the grand channels of the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Linyanti Rivers.

Also worth visiting are the searing thirst lands of the Makgadikgadi Pans - a unique range of ecosystems in which bird, plant and animal life abound, and the Central Kalahari. Botswana is a land locked country, dominated in geographical terms by the Kalahari Desert.

Botswana safaris offer travellers truly amazing and diverse experiences in pristine environments. You can fly, drive, walk with Bushmen, glide past Hippos in a dug-out canoe, horse ride or wade through the delta on the back of an elephant. You can even swim in it (if you dare!).

Botswana is also renowned for understatedly stylish accommodation in the heart of the breathtaking Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Moremi Wildlife Reserve areas.

Botswana is roughly the size of France but only 1,8 million people lives here ( nearly half of them is under 15 years of age ).

Botswana’s economic progress since independence is one of the few success stories of the African continent.

Botswana was the location for the 1980 movie The Gods Must Be Crazy.
