Cameroon, officially called the Republic of Cameroon, is situated in West Africa and bordered on the north by Chad, on the east by Central African Republic, on the south by Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, on the southwest by the Gulf of Guinea and on the west by Nigeria. In Cameroon, you can find a great variety of landscape including plains, highlands or tropical forests. Contrary to the other countries in Africa, Cameroon enjoys political and social stability, yet it is a developing country facing many problems.

Bafut (click for more information)
Bafut is a village situated north of Bamenda. It is the centre of traditional culture and the siege of a 700-year-old dynasty of Fon. In December, a celebration with masked dancing and drumming is held in honour of the Fon´s dynasty. The museum, including traditional costumes, weapons and carvings, and the Fon´s palace are definitely worth seeing.

Bamenda is a small town lying in the west of Cameroon. Bamenda Highlands provide a good possibility for trekking. You can admire the magnificent landscape with lots of small lakes and waterfalls.

Kribi is another seaside resort situated on the Gulf of Guinea. The Lobe waterfalls, which are found 7 kilometres south of Kribi, are among the most attractive places. Beautiful beaches Costa Blanca and Cocotier Plage situated north of Kribi provide a good possibility for having a rest.

Limbé is a seaside city that was founded on the southern slopes of Mount Cameroon. Gorgeous black sand beaches are very popular among tourists. However, Limbe Wildlife Centre and Limbe Botanical Gardens are frequently visited as well.

Mandara Mountains are frequently visited because of the possibility of trekking. The whole area is full small villages ( Maga, Mabas, Koza, Rhumsiki and Djingliya) where you can see unique houses or admire the beautiful landscape. Maroua is a city that is found not far away from Mandara Mountains.

Mt. Cameron (click for more information)
Mt. Cameron is the highest peak of Cameroon as well as an active volcano. As the town of Buea is situated on the slopes of the mountain, it is point of departure for the climbing up to the top of Mt. Cameron (4095m). This volcano is also known locally as Mount Faka and "Chariot of the Gods“ and it is one of Cameroon's main tourist attractions. Every year you can take part in a race up its rocky slopes. Eruptions generally occur on the flanks of the volcano and produce small cinder cones and lava flows.

Parc National du Waza is really a must-see lying on the north of Cameroon. Provided you decide to visit this well-known national park, you can expect to see there giraffes, monkeys, hippos, elephants, antelopes, lions or various kinds of birds.

Yaoundée is the capital of Cameroon. Apart from lots of administrative buildings, you can visit excellent museums, Musée d´Art Cameroonais being the most famous one. You can see there the collection of Cameroonian art that is considered as one of the best collections in the world. The monastery’s chapel is also worth visiting.

Why to visit Cameroon

In Cameroon, you can find a great variety of landscape including plains, highlands or tropical forests. Contrary to the other countries in Africa, Cameroon enjoys political and social stability, yet it is a developing country facing many problems.

Climate

As Cameroon belongs among the countries with tropical climate, there are dry and rainy season. The best time for the visit of the country is from December to April.

Population

Cameroon has population about 18 million people. Including over 200 ethnic groups, it is one of the most diverse populations in Africa. Among the most important groups are Cameroon Highlanders, Equatorial Bantu, Fulani and Kari. Most common religions practiced are Christian (40%) and indigenous beliefs (40%), followed by Muslim (20%).

As Cameroon used to be a French colony, official languages are both French and English. However, a lot of Bantu languages are spoken as well.

As for economy, the most important is agriculture. Coffee and cocoa are exported.
