History of Cuba

Before Columbus came, island was inhabited by Ciboney, Carribs and Tayno. In 1492 Columbus discovered Cuba and in 1511 Spanish colonization started. In 1902 independence of Cuba was proclaimed and Cuba signed with USA pact and lease to the U.S. the naval base at Guantánamo Bay. However, USA had control over Cuba. From this time came famous cocktail Cuba Libre, which is prepared from one portion of rum and same portion of Coca Cola. In 30th of 20th century there was political instability but after World War II. policy of Cuba was again under the control of USA. In 1952 Fulgencio Batista Zaldívar got the power after putsch that was supported by USA. His dictatorship was beginning of resistance that was led by Fidel Castro Ruz and during rising Castro became prime minister. The government asked Soviet Union for help and USA started sea blockade. This embargo continued to 90th and when communism in Europe was falling, Castro’s control had problems. Because of economy, Cuba started to trade with other countries in 1995. Many people tried to escape to USA and that is why USA abandoned asylum for these people.
