During the sunny days you can lie on sandy beaches as well as stride through very dense forests that are situated even higher than 6 561 feet. The climate is subtropical but there often comes the season of rains in winter. Most of the days from April to October are sunny, so it gets pretty hot during the summer.

People in Cyprus

The total count of people living in Cyprus is about 730 000 which gives the country the 154th place in the world ranking. They are very outgoing, friendly and generous. You shall never refuse their hospitality. Family plays a very important role in their lives and also interesting is the special attention they pay to their customs and traditions. For example marriage is a really important feast so it can sometimes take a few days.

History of Cyprus

Due to its location on the main route between Europe and Asia, Cyprus has always been invaded by other nations. As it was simply too small to defend itself, it was ruled by stronger empires. It was conquered, bought and sold, and the Cyprians had little say in these matters. Among the nations that have ruled Cyprus are Greeks, the Knights Templar, Jews, the Venetians, the Ottoman Turks and the British. Cyprus has been given the independence in 1960.

What to do in Cyprus

There are several national parks in Cyprus, for example Akamas, Karpas and Athalassa. Akamas is very well noted for divers and ornithologists. If you like climbing, the best place for you to visit is the Avgas pass. The national park Athalassa gains the hearts of the visitors due to the Park of Nations where are growing trees planted by celebrities from all over the world. But the most people travel to Cyprus to enjoy the summer and swimming on beautiful beaches. Probably the most famous is the Nissi Beach with its white sand surrounded by tremendous green vegetation.
