The pyramids, the sphinx and the pharaohs’ tombs; everybody knows this North African country according to these typical symbols. Main part from the area of 1 001 449 km2, is covered by sand desert. Nowadays Egypt is very popular tourist resort, because it is possible string together historical monuments with seaside recreation. The Capital city is Cairo. As well as Cairo the other important centers are along the Nile River.

Egyptian culture has been admired in all times. Even ancient Greeks were fascinated by the Egyptian architecture, which is one of the oldest. During the whole history, Egypt was very important centre, and all the time under the view of world leaders.

Egyptian economy lies mainly on tourism, agriculture and petroleum export. Even thought Egypt is very populous country, it belongs to the wealthier ones in Africa.

Almost 98% of population belongs to Egyptians ethnic group. Main religion is Islam. Official language is Arabic. Because Egypt lies close to seats of war and other conflicts, many refugees are there, mainly from Palestine and Africa.

Egyptian History

It would be difficult to find any person who hasn’t heard about the ancient Egypt civilization. Architecture from this time is kept till nowadays and it is a big attraction for tourists. It is well known that this civilization was quiet developed, as an evidence are old Egyptian script, which is called hieroglyphs and just mentioned architecture. After the Egyptian realm, Greeks and Romans have been there. In further history was Egypt very popular for all world leaders of that time. In middle age Egypt was part of Byzantium, in 16th century was conquered by Ottoman Turks. They had been there until 19th century, when Britain started to fight with Turks towards to protect their investment in Suez Canal. Egypt gained independence in 1953.

Egyptian Culture

Egyptian culture is one of the oldest on the world. Architecture, wall paintings or old chants are typical for this time. Nowadays culture is influenced by Islam, which is dominant religion.

What to do in Egypt

Most of the travel agencies offer combination of staying on seaside with trips to historical centres, where you can see pyramids and pharaohs tombs. These two things are the most interesting activities, which Egypt can offer.
